the process of creating 'The Butterfly Effect' theory as a symbol.
In this assignment, we were given a long term project of creating a symbol design through it's historical background and contemporary relevance of each of these topic:
a. A scientific theory
b. A design trend (only activities, not individual thing)
c. A natural phenomenon (only processes, not individual thing)
The topics I eventually chose :
The Milky Way (Natural Phenomenon), Surrealism Photography (A design trend), and The Butterfly Effect (Scientific Theory)
In-depth research of three topic:
EXPLORATION PROCESS
sketches

I first sketched each of the topic's visual representation using morphological matrix. I created a minimum of 30 sketches.

I then created a more refined sketch of each topic, based on our lecturer he finds the butterfly affect design as the most unique in which I too agree.
FINAL SKETCH USED

The Butterfly Theory explains about how a minor interference may cause to absolute destruction, causing everything to come tumbling down. I represented that idea using a card tower. Once the butterfly fly off the tower, everything comes tumbling down like a domino.

In the final poster, I did more editing on the typography and design overall. I created the top of the tower as if the butterfly had already instigated the chain reaction and also having a skull as the butterfly's shadow to depict the chaos it brings.

Designer's note:
The process of this symbol making was definitely not easy. Initially, I was going to use the design for surrealism photography before I spontaneously came up with the design for The Butterfly Effect. I am quite pleased with the visual symbolism outcome. However, I personally feel as if the angle of the cards were not so accurate (it looks warpy). I am keen on improving on that aspect. But I would say I am quite proud of how the overall design looks, as it has a correlation with another subject's project (card making).
