Self reflection:
What is your favorite design project (so far) and why?
Answer:
There have been a good amount of project that I am satisfied of. However, my if I had to pick one it is most definitely a project from our Individual Project lesson where we had to make something to commemorate our journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. I chose to create cards which I thought would not have been possible. The idea of creating 52 individual designs, in addition it's packaging, is quite overwhelming. But the results were quite satisfactory. I learned new things about photoshop and digital illustrations in general. It pushed me to grow as a conceptor, artist, and even a writer. The project involves many aspects of art. I was also pleased with the enthusiasm I received from my environment. I can see myself making my cards a small business with it being one of the most popular hang-out games among Indonesians.
Self reflection:
Any particular topic that you prefer when reading? How about reading design related material? Share to us what you learn from those sources. Any role model designers?
Answer:
I am not a big advocate for reading. I prefer to listen to someone teaching me about a certain topic or watch an online video. Ironically, I have been reading a book recently. As a young kid, I prefer reading mangas for it had visuals which excites me. I can count by hand the amount of novels I've read (probably around 5). I use to prefer romance novels, now I'm more keen of books which teaches me something about the deeper value in life. I enjoy digging for a certain moral message through a fictional story line.
I have never read design related materials nor do I have a designer role model. My spectrum of designers is quite small, I rely on pinterest of even instagram as a gate way for me to find design inspirations. In conclusion, I don't have a specific artist whom I look up to.
Self reflection:
Where do you look for inspirations? If you can change some things in your old design, what would you do to make it better?
Answer:
As mentioned before, I use social media as a platform for me to look for inspirations. Applications like pinterest, instagram, and now tiktok have many sources of inspirations. Both small and well-known artists even use it as their portfolios. Other than that, my friends and surroundings often inspires me. Adding corny and sarcastic elements into my design is a fun way for me to keep myself motivated in the projects I work on. Anything that sparks joy will definitely be an inspiration.
If I can change anything in my old design, I would improve on the fonts I used and layouting. I feel as if I lack in making designs that looks balanced. I would make better use of grids.
